Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for the kitchen any more! June (host): Greetings. welcome back to Gardening In The City. Today our very competent, and expert gardener Kelley will be showing us some tips on how to properly use; selecting a planter; and how to set your plant into a planter. Kelley (Gardener): That's right, June. Many times the simple things are over looked in the garden. We'll be using this planter. It has straight sides, a good top edge for carrying. and your standard drainage hole at the bottom. June: I'm looking at the supplies on your work table and I'm not seeing any two inch stone that are so often used to help fill those drainage holes. Kelley: [they smile knowingly] True, many times gardeners use stone, pebble, and sand to build the container's soil base when working with potted plants. But we're in the city and in the city we do things just a little differently. Our base is simpler. [Kelley shows the audience and the host a 3M Scotch Brite scrubbing pad] June: [she takes it from them and looks at it] WAIT a moment this is a 3M Scotch Brite scrubbing pad. Kelley: Yep. June: So how can this scrubbing pad take the place of the other base materials. Kelley: [they politely take the pad back, and drop into the planter. They then add a few spadefuls of dirt on top of it.] Simple really. Scotch Brite - keeps the dirt in, and the lets the water out, Scotch Brite! Scene continues as it fades out.
